Alex MacDougall   

Hockey / Golf (Athlete)

Inductee - 2023

As a young athlete it was Lacrosse in the summer and hockey in the winter. The Cornwall Minor Hockey Association was the training ground that would see Alex play 3 seasons of Jr “B” before lacing them up for the St. Lawrence College Roadrunners in the OCAA. Following graduation Alex headed to Toronto to work in the Engineering field and play in the MTHL Senior Hockey League.  The following year (1973) Alex returned to Cornwall and started his on ice officiating stint working the Eastern Ontario Jr “C”, St. Lawrence Jr “B” and Central Jr ”A”  hockey Leagues throughout the Ottawa Valley. In 1975 Alex was invited to join the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and officiated for 5 years before joining the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the next 2 years.

 

Alex also had the opportunity to officiate the All Ontario Bantam Loblaw’s Cup, The Wrigley Canadian Midget Hockey Championships and the final four Canadian University Championships.

 

The summertime from 1973 to 1983 saw Alex pitch fastball for a number of teams in both the Industrial and John Denneny Fastball leagues winning a championship with Cain’s Backhoe Service as well as a few tournaments.

 

In the sport of Golf Alex joined Summer Heights in 1983 winning Club Championships in 1990, 1997, and 2000. Alex also won the Men’s singles and Doubles competitions. He also played on a number of golf teams participating in both Border and Valley Leagues during those twenty years at Summer Heights. After a 20 year stint at Summer Heights he moved to the Cornwall Golf and Country club in 2003 and won the “B” Class Championship in 2005. Retired for the past 7 years and residing in South Stormont for the past 9 years, Alex has been an active member of the Cornwall Curling centre for the past 26 years and a member of the Upper Canada Golf course for the past eight years.
