Ella Lalonde
Cross Country/Track & Field
2023

Ella has been a dedicated athlete since the age of 8. She competed at a provincial level in artistic gymnastics for the Cornwall Gymnastics Club from age 8 to 16. Ella won many awards at the club including the sportsmanship award, most improved award, a dedication award, as well as many medals and special awards for events at competitions across Ontario. Finishing 4th all around in the Ontario Championships in 2017 and 5th all around in 2019, her athletic career did not end there.

In high school, Ella found her sport. Being the captain of the La Citadelle Cross Country team from 2019-2022, she set a great example for the rest of the group. Ella won each SDG race that she raced and finished 17th at EOSSAA in grade 10. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, she could not compete at this competition for Grades 11 and 12. Ella also participated in track and field where she won the 1500m and 3000m races in grades 9 and 10 at the SDG championship. In grade 12 she ran the 1500m, 2000m steeplechase and the 4x100m relay where she took home the gold in all of her respective races and went to OFSAA East Regionals for the Steeplechase.

She currently runs for the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club where she continues to compete at a provincial level. Ella’s hard work and dedication has led to an opportunity to continue her track and field career at the University of Ottawa. Ella raced the 300m and the 600m distances, and also began to high jump in a successful first year as a University of Ottawa GeeGee. She qualified for the Ontario University Athletics Championships in high jump where she placed 10th in the competition. Ella also competed on one of the 4x400m relay teams throughout the indoor season. Ella plans to continue her track and field journey throughout her time with uOttawa.

Ella has spent the past three summers working for the township as part of the Special Summer Events team offering recreational and event opportunities across the community.  She will be continuing her nursing studies at the University of Ottawa in the Fall of 2023.
