Ruby Lalonde
Volleyball
2023

Ruby started her volleyball career in 2017 as the youngest member of the Cornwall Vikings Under 15 Girls team. She learned the game quickly, and the following year was leading her team as setter. Her team mostly used a ‘5-1’ setting, which meant they relied on Ruby’s skill not only to set the ball properly but to read the opponent's defense and make quick decisions on who to direct the ball to on her own team.

Ruby was named captain or co-captain for all of her teams with the Vikings until COVID unfortunately shut down the program. Several of the teams won gold, silver, or bronze medals in tournament play over Eastern Ontario and culminating in Provincial Club play in April each year.

Simultaneously, Ruby was sharing her talents with her high-school teams from 2019-2023 for the St. Joe’s Panthers. She was praised by her coaches for helping to drill with and develop younger players. Ruby also always was very positive on the court, encouraging her teammates to bring their best and raising their spirits when they were struggling. Her calm, determined, and positive leadership style as captain earned her the MVP award every year of her high school career culminating in leading her team to the EOSSA championships in 2023. In June of this year, she was awarded with the Lions Club Outstanding Female Volleyball Player of the Year for all of SD&G.
